Mixed with some soot, charcoal or perhaps mashed up spinach, or some saffron you can make some really great mono prints.
I'll be doing this at St Barnabas Church with a lovely group of people on Linthorpe Road in Middlesbrough this Saturday!
This is a Borderlands creative workshop and brings communities together! We are making imagery that can be scanned and edited for a beautiful recipe book.
After all charcoal and indeed soot will have been a by product of the cooking process in our breads and into our stews, casseroles and more; from open fires and also chimney breasts!
We are coming together to share creativity in art, cooking, making, talking, story telling and to share recipes within this project.
I will post imagery from this session and look forward to the smells, the textures, the feel and the whole sensory experience. Memories will be made and visual language will be shared.
The last session saw a group working with Charcoal and other organic pigments to make a palette of egg tempera and watercolour paints (shown in these images)! We explored drawing methods first and enjoyed the feel of different charcoals and graphites across the page, before we investigated the egg and the making of the watercolour paints!
Apparently everyone was amazed at their results and how good they felt after the session! Using organic pigments and using charcoal calms and relaxes you.
Here are some of the images from the session. It was so enjoyable! Lovely results which can be incorporated into the recipe book for the project Borderlands Creative
